Short answer

Rendez-Vous Star is a seller term, not a Jaeger-LeCoultre reference. Jaeger-LeCoultre sells the Rendez-Vous as a women's line, introduced in 2012. Listings that use the word Star point to two things: the Rendez-Vous Celestial, which carries a rotating star map on the dial, or a Night & Day model with star-tipped hands. Genuine case sizes are 29 mm, 34 mm and 37.5 mm. Replica makers copy the 34 mm size most.

Genuine reference points

  • Collection launch: 2012, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Le Sentier, Switzerland.
  • Case sizes: 29 mm, 34 mm, 37.5 mm.
  • Case metals: steel, pink gold, white gold.
  • Movements: automatic calibres, including 967A for the day and night version and 898B for the date version. Check the exact reference for the movement inside.
  • Crystal: sapphire. Water resistance on genuine pieces: 30 m to 50 m.
  • Dial: mother-of-pearl on several references, diamond indexes, diamond-set bezels on the higher references.

What replica versions copy

Most replica Rendez-Vous watches carry a 34 mm case, a diamond-set bezel, a mother-of-pearl dial and a day and night disc at 6 o'clock. Secondary versions use a plain bezel and printed star markers. Case metal is 316L steel with gold plating, listed at 3 to 5 microns on the better builds. Strap is calf leather with a pin buckle or a deployant clasp.

Movements inside replica Rendez-Vous watches

Three tiers show up in wholesale listings.

  1. Quartz. Thin case, no rotor, seconds hand ticks one step at a time.
  2. Automatic, Miyota 9015 or Seagull ST21. Sweep seconds. The day and night disc runs off a gear train.
  3. Automatic with decorated plates and an engraved rotor, built to pass a visual check through the caseback.

The day and night disc is the part that fails first. On low-tier builds the disc gear slips and the sun and moon sit in the wrong position at noon.

Prices

No public index tracks replica watch prices, and wholesale bands move with metal costs. Listings fall in three groups: USD 80 to 150 for quartz, USD 180 to 350 for automatic, USD 400 and up for gold-plated diamond-set builds. Treat each number as a seller claim until you see photographs of the actual unit.

Inspection checklist

  1. Crown: turns with light drag, pulls to two positions.
  2. Day and night disc: set the time to 12:00 and to 24:00, then confirm the sun and moon swap.
  3. Bezel stones: press each stone with a plastic tip. Loose stones fall out.
  4. Dial printing: check the logo and the minute track under 10x magnification.
  5. Caseback: engraving depth and font.
  6. Water resistance: assume splash contact only. Replicas are not pressure tested at the factory.

Where replicas differ from the genuine watch

Guilloche depth, mother-of-pearl thickness and diamond grading are the three gaps that show under a loupe. Genuine Jaeger-LeCoultre stones ship with a grading report. Replica stones do not. Movement finishing shows a fourth gap: genuine bridges carry Geneva stripes and chamfered edges, replica plates carry laser etching.

Questions for the seller

  • Which reference number does this copy?
  • Which movement is inside, and what is the beat rate?
  • Case diameter and lug width in millimeters?
  • Are the photos of the actual unit or a stock image?
  • Return window and payment method?

Ask for a photo of the movement with the caseback off. A seller who will not send one has not opened the watch.
