What "P99" refers to

Panerai does not make a watch called the P99. The code is not a Panerai reference number. Panerai uses the PAM prefix plus digits, for example PAM00210, PAM00183, PAM00346. "P99" shows up in dealer listings and forum posts about replica Radiomir watches. It works as a batch or version label. The factory behind it, the release date, and the unit count are not documented in public sources. Treat any specific claim about P99 origin as unverified.

The Radiomir line

The Radiomir started as a Panerai prototype in 1936 for Italian navy divers. The case is a cushion shape with a screw-down caseback and wire loop lugs. Sizes run from 42 mm to 47 mm. Original dials used radium paint, which is where the name comes from. Current production uses Super-LumiNova. Movements are hand-wound, most often the P.3000 family in modern references and the OP XI, based on the Unitas 6497, in older ones.

Authentication

Panerai service centers verify a watch by case serial, movement, and paperwork. No code from a reseller listing substitutes for that check. If a seller cannot supply a serial number that Panerai confirms, the watch is not authentic.
