Fake Omega Caliber 8800

A fake Omega Caliber 8800 is an automatic movement built by a third-party factory, then engraved to read "8800" and "Co-Axial Master Chronometer." Omega does not make it. METAS does not test it. The genuine Calibre 8800 is a Master Chronometer movement that Omega submits to METAS for an 8-test certification. Both versions look similar through a sapphire caseback. They differ in beat rate, jewel count, escapement design, balance spring material, and finish.

Replica forums name the Seagull ST2130, the Hangzhou 6460, and the Miyota 9015 as base movements for the marked 8800. Some factories build a dedicated clone. The work goes into the surface: a rotor engraved with the Omega symbol, Geneva stripes on the bridges, blackened screws, and a red "8800" stamp. Under the decoration the gear train is a standard lever design. The plate text does not change the mechanics. A clone movement is a copy of a look, not a copy of a certified movement.

How to tell them apart

  • Papers. Genuine watches ship with a METAS card tied to the movement number. Clones ship with a printed card and no matching record.
